St. Joseph’s University Medical Center is a major academic medical center and State-designated trauma center located in Paterson, New Jersey. St. Joseph's is part of St. Joseph's Health, which encompasses St. Joseph's University Medical Center, St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, St. Joseph's Wayne Medical Center, St. Joseph's Healthcare and Rehab Center, and Visiting Health Services of New Jersey. St. Joseph's Health is sponsored by the Catholic Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth and is committed to providing high-quality care, with a special concern for those who are poor, vulnerable, and underserved.

This project supports a planning process, in collaboration with Center for Care Innovations consultants, to develop a plan for an Innovation Center within a safety net hospital and to expand a formal process for innovation throughout St. Joseph’s. The goals of the Innovation Center are to create a space conducive to innovation, provide a channel for employees at all levels to submit ideas for improvement, and develop a multi-disciplinary team that is proficient in leading staff through the innovation process.  A successful Innovation Center will help St. Joseph’s improve health care quality, enhance recruitment and retention efforts, gain a competitive advantage, and generate a positive Return on Investment (ROI).

St. Joseph’s is one of two sites participating in this project. The other site is Trinitas Regional Medical Center.
