Leadership Development for Early Childhood Educators
New Leaders, Inc. is a national nonprofit organization based in New York City that works to ensure high academic achievement for all children, especially students in poverty and students of color, by developing transformational school leaders and designing leadership policies and practices for school systems across the country.
This project supports the adaptation of New Leaders’ Emerging Leaders Program for early childhood administrators and teachers in Jersey City Public Schools. The Emerging Leaders Program integrates leadership training into the daily work of teachers, coaches, and assistant principals. The training helps these leaders develop key skills as they work with a team of teachers to advance school goals. The first phase of the project involves recruiting applicants for the Program, developing early childhood-specific content, and tailoring the Program’s curriculum for early childhood educators. The second phase of the project involves delivering the Program to 15 lead teachers, instructional coaches, and assistant principals during the 2016-2017 school year.
