Case Study Analyses of the Rutgers Integration with University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is a leading national research university and the state of New Jersey’s preeminent, comprehensive public institution of higher education. Established in 1766, the university is the eighth oldest higher education institution in the United States. Nearly 69,000 students and 22,000 full- and part-time faculty and staff learn, work, and serve the public at Rutgers locations across New Jersey and around the world. In 2013, Rutgers University merged with the former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey to create Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, an academic medical center with schools in medicine, dentistry, nursing, allied health, pharmacy, public health, and biomedical science. 

This project supports the development of a series of three case studies describing and analyzing the merger and creation of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences.  Each case study is designed for a separate audience—higher education administrators and other general managers, academic scholars in corporate strategy, and policymakers in New Jersey. As a result, the content of each case study is specifically tailored to aspects of the merger that are of interest to each audience.
