Nicholson Senior Program Officer Gives Presentation at Early Childhood Inclusion Conference

Shannon Riley-Ayers, Senior Program Officer at The Nicholson Foundation, was invited to co-present with Kaitlin Northey, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education at the University of Vermont, at the Early Childhood Inclusion Conference held July 17-18 in Houston, Texas. The Early Childhood Inclusion Conference is designed to support teachers who teach students with disabilities in early childhood special education programs.

The presentation, “Where’s the Challenge? Teaching through Play in PreK,” highlighted the importance of using developmentally appropriate practices (DAP), explored what DAP looks like in the classroom, and took a dive deep into how to use play as the vehicle for learning. Participants discussed  strategies to overcome potential barriers of play-based teaching and left the session with a plan for implementing play and playful learning in their classrooms.
