The Nicholson Foundation Co-Sponsors NJ Spotlight Roundtable on Racial Equity in Healthcare

On July 29, NJ Spotlight and NJTV News hosted a virtual roundtable event, “Race and Health Care in New Jersey: Addressing Inequities in the COVID-19 Era.” The Nicholson Foundation co-sponsored the roundtable.

Longstanding racial disparities in healthcare have been magnified by the COVID-19 pandemic's disproportionate impact on communities of color. The roundtable discussion focused on opportunities to improve health outcomes for minority groups and to address social determinants of health as New Jersey proceeds with re-opening plans.

Moderated by NJ Spotlight reporter Lilo Stainton, the panel included Shereef Elnahal, President and Chief Executive Officer of University Hospital; Denise Rodgers, Vice Chancellor for Interprofessional Programs at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences; Assemblyman Herb Conaway, Jr.; and David Ansell, Senior Vice President for Community Health Equity at Rush University Medical Center. Michellene Davis, Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of RWJBarnabas Health, provided keynote remarks.
