The New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (NJAAP) gave their “Champions for Children” award to Arturo Brito, Executive Director of The Nicholson Foundation at their annual ball on April 19th. The NJAAP bestows this annual award on honorees “whose care, support and advocacy have made a genuine difference in the lives of children and families in New Jersey.”
The award honors Brito’s work on behalf of children from his previous position as Deputy Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health, 2011 - 2017. In that position, he oversaw the Public Health Services Branch of the department, developing and implementing a number of initiatives specifically focusing on pediatric health, such as addressing environmental exposures, post-disaster mental health impacts, birth defects, and access to quality healthcare for children in New Jersey.
Providing remarks at the gala event, Brito noted his hope that the NJAAP and The Nicholson Foundation will be “partners in promoting the policies, innovations, and ideas that will give our children the best possible start in life.”
