New Jersey Raises Subsidy Rates for Child Care Programs

New Jersey’s Department of Human Services has announced the first increase in child care subsidy rates in 10 years. An estimated $15 million was appropriated in the state fiscal year 2018 budget for the rate increases.

Rates will increase from 1% to 4% for child care centers receiving payment through the Child Care Subsidy Program, which helps low-income working families pay for child care. Meanwhile, providers rated at three stars out of five or above in the state’s Grow NJ Kids Quality Rating and Improvement System will see even more substantial increases, ranging from 4% to 24%.

The rate increases–a key goal of The Nicholson Foundation and other stakeholder groups–are the result of good work and planning by the Division of Family Development supported by longstanding advocacy efforts.
